Slayer xp message doesn't appear when battling hordes

Hi. I've noticed that sometimes when you're surrounded by enemies, the slayer xp message doesn't appear after the previous battle finishes and before the next one starts. Does this mean those slayer points are lost or does the game update them in the background and they are merely not displayed?

It's been a while, so I might not be remembering right, but I THINK you do actually lose out on those slayer points, so it's best to try to have a little bit of space between them whenever you can.
